Orthotic therapy is utilized when there is a significant biomechanical situation that cannot be adequately supported by the muscular system or with footwear alone. Here at Proformance we will work with your muscular system to optimize its function and supporting role. A thorough biomechanical evaluation will be completed to look at your individual situation. We will work with you and recommend over the counter devices and appropriate footwear for you when this is appropriate. If these attempts are not successful or you have already exhausted these avenues we will then take you through the custom orthotics process. This starts with created a negative cast impression of your foot using plaster. The casts are sent to a orthotist who will build your customized orthotics based on the specifications found in your evaluation. We will fit you with your orthotics here at Proformance Rehab. You will gradually increase your wear time and we will make modifications as necessary. The most important component to orthotic therapy is that it is a component of the care and not the whole process. Exercises chosen to work on strength and flexibility are also a vital component.
